Choosing your stone

For an engagement ring worn every day, you want a stone with strong durability, consistent appearance, and a look you'll love for decades. At SilviQ we work with three options:

Lab-grown diamond — 10/10 Mohs hardness, classic white sparkle, and the same physical properties as a mined diamond. IGI certified above 1 carat. The most traditional choice in a modern form.

Moissanite — 9.25 Mohs hardness, with more fire (rainbow dispersion) than diamond. A distinct gemstone in its own right, not a substitute. Chosen by those who want maximum brilliance.

Lab-grown coloured gemstones — sapphires in pink, blue, and yellow are a strong choice for engagement rings at 9 Mohs hardness. For something less conventional and deeply personal.

The 4Cs — what actually matters

The 4Cs are the standard grading criteria for diamonds. Here's how to use them practically.

C
Cut
How well the stone is proportioned to reflect light. Cut has the most visible impact on how a diamond looks — a well-cut smaller stone will outperform a poorly cut larger one.
Prioritise cut above the other three Cs.
C
Colour
Graded D (colourless) to Z (light yellow). D–G grades appear colourless to the naked eye in most settings. Below H, a slight warmth may be visible depending on the metal.
D–G is a practical range for most buyers.
C
Clarity
Measures internal characteristics. VS1–VS2 stones are eye-clean — any inclusions exist below the threshold of naked-eye visibility.
VS1–VS2 offers a good balance of quality and price.
C
Carat
Carat measures weight, not size. A well-cut 0.70ct will look better face-up than a poorly cut 1.00ct. Shape also affects how large a stone appears — oval and pear cuts tend to look larger than round at the same weight.
Consider cut and shape before chasing carat weight.

Setting styles

The setting determines how the stone is held and how the ring looks overall. Each style suits a different aesthetic and lifestyle.

Solitaire
One stone, clean shank. The most classic engagement ring form. Emphasises the centre stone above everything else.
Most popular
Halo
A ring of smaller stones frames the centre stone, making it appear larger and adding overall brilliance to the piece.
Maximum sparkle
Bezel
Metal surrounds the stone's girdle. A clean, modern look with the most secure stone hold. Well suited to active wear.

Most accessible
Rhodium-plated for a bright white finish and tarnish resistance. The most affordable way to wear a well-made ring with a real stone. All our standard designs are available in silver.
9K – 18K Gold
Yellow · White · Rose
Available in yellow, white, or rose gold from 9K through 18K. Any design from our collection can be made in gold — or bring your own idea and we'll quote it. Production is 5–7 business days.
950 Platinum
The most durable option
Naturally white, hypoallergenic, and extremely dense — platinum holds its weight and wears exceptionally well over decades. Available on any design. Contact us to discuss.
